About Jen

Jennifer Bigus (or Ms. Jen, as she's known to her students) has been teaching throughout her computer science career. She has a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Computer Science, along with a Masters degree in Instructional Design and an Educational Specialist degree in Computing Technology in Education. She has taught math and computer science topics as a volunteer in grade school and middle school, was a technology teacher at a private high school, and has served as adjunct faculty at two different colleges.

Jen's computer industry experience ranges from programming robots to developing Web applications, from decoding secret messages for the Navy to managing teams of software engineers, and from creating software that controls gas pumps to running a world-wide technology education program for businesses. She has worked for both small and large corporations, including more than a decade at IBM. In addition, she has authored or co-authored a number of books, articles, and book chapters about Web technologies and intelligent agents. Throughout her career, Jen has enjoyed the different opportunities that a degree in Computer Science has made possible.

Jen was born and raised in Pennsylvania but later moved to Minnesota where she and her husband raised their two children. Both her kids are grown and married. She and her husband now live in South Carolina, where she enjoys walking on the beach, crabbing, reading, and quilting in her spare time.
